Foundation Awards 3rd Qtr Grants Print E-mail

 

MEDIA ALERT:
THIRD QUARTER 2009 GRANTS ANNOUNCED
 
KDK-Harman Foundation awards local education-focused nonprofits $440,000 this 3rd quarter. Grant recipients were as follows:
 
ACEE: Capacity building grant to fund ACEE, an early literacy tutoring program for low-income, mainly Spanish-speaking Pre-K, 1st and 2nd graders in schools throughout Austin: $50,000
Austin Voices for Education and Youth: In support of the ‘Right Question Project’ parent training program at Burnet Middle School and Lanier and Reagan High Schools geared to mobilize parents in the area of college access: $25,000
Badgerdog: For general operating support purposes of literary and publishing workshops in Central Texas schools: $35,000
Book Trust: To continue program of enriching literacy culture of families in poverty by providing children the opportunity to chose, own, and delight in books at Pecan Springs, Sims, Widen and Govalle elementary schools: $30,000
Breakthrough Austin: To support general operating purposes of college readiness and college access program: $60,000
College Forward: For general operating purposes and expansion planning: $100,000 (Austin, Del Valle, Georgetown, San Marcos, Manor, Pflugerville and Round Rock, Texas).
Communities In Schools: To pilot and evaluate ‘Sylvan Ace It!’ tutoring program that addresses academic needs of at-risk students at Norman, Pecan Springs, and Wooten elementary schools: $50,000
E3 Alliance: For general operating support: $40,000
University of Texas Elementary School: For contiuation of the school’s Science Demonstration Project: $50,000
